ASTM A420 Low Temperature Carbon Steel Pipe Cross

A420 low-temperature steel cross tee‌, allowing fluids to be transported from one point to another. As a fundamental piping connection component, it features ‌‌, through which fluids can enter or exit the pipeline.

 

ASTM A420, developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), is a standard specification for butt-welded wrought carbon steel and alloy steel pipe fittings for low-temperature service. The core objective of this standard is to ensure that fittings possess sufficient toughness, strength, and sealing properties in cryogenic environments, preventing material embrittlement or structural failure caused by sudden temperature drops. It clearly defines key requirements, including the chemical composition, mechanical property requirements, manufacturing process specifications, dimensional tolerances, nondestructive testing methods, and labeling and packaging requirements for fittings. Its applicable temperature range reaches -45℃, covering most industrial cryogenic service requirements. It also provides detailed specifications for design pressures and connection methods, providing comprehensive technical guidance for manufacturers and users.

 

Material grades of ASTM A420

The ASTM A420 standard covers a variety of carbon steel and alloy steel grades suitable for low-temperature environments. These grades are divided into WPL3, WPL6, WPL9, WPL11, WPL12, WPL22, etc. according to their chemical composition and mechanical properties. Among them, WPL6 is one of the most widely used materials.
